Screw the Children

A representative from Texas, Robert Talton , added an amendment today to a bill aimed at reforming Child Protective Services (CPS) in Texas. The amendment could ban homosexual couples from becoming foster parents. We already knew that the gay communicty is getting screwed by the religious right and neo-cons, but this amendment (also approved by ten Democratic representatives) could possibly put as many as 2,500 foster children back in orphanages, according to the Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby of Texas . Talton, the author of the amendment, explained why he believes it is necessary: "Some of us believe they [the children] would be better off in orphanages than in a homosexual or bisexual households [sic] because that's a learned behavior." Wow. That might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's also callous, but it's really stupid. So stupid, in fact, that I may pass out if I try to verbalize how ridiculously idiotic it is. Wow!! Au Natural

Against Kandis' wishes, I purchased a $100 reel mower, instead of a gas mower. Despite the fact that it has some trouble cutting weeds (they should be pulled anyway, not just cut), it works beautifully. My neighbors think I'm a little strange, and I was a bit embarrassed the first time I went out and started using it, but I've gotten over that. It's convenient, and, aside from regular blade sharpening, it requires less maintenance than a power mower. No paying for gas, either!

New House!

We're finally moved in and unpacked, thanks in large parts to Kandis' efforts to get everything out of boxes. I'm including some pictures of the living room for now, and will post more later.
